Finding the answers to so many of life’s puzzling questions or problems is actually rather straightforward, in theory anyway. Yet they are found by so few, and the reason being, I believe, is that generally speaking it’s down to ourselves and our own stubborn attitudes or faulty thinking. What follows here is why I genuinely believe that to be the case along with my attempts to encourage us all to begin to think for ourselves about these things and put some cheer back into our lives.
This first page is more than an intro, it’s probably by far the longest page on the site actually, basically setting the scene for the whole content. If you’re just skimming this site please skip this intro and please give one of the sub pages under this one a read, the first one titled ‘A Prized Possession’ is the longest and it’s main part is only an 8 minute read if you’re quick, that’s all, but it could change your life and I’d like to think its relevant to most of us today to some degree or other!
With all these TikTok videos and You Tube shorts nowadays I know I won’t reach everyone here as we are being programmed not to be able to focus for more than a minute at a time but I do hope you realise that and make the effort to read this first page. Theodore Roosevelt said ‘Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well’.
If I can persuade you to find just a few more minutes to gamble with by just reading this first section then that’s all you’ve got to lose – if by the end you feel you’ve got life sorted already and it means nothing to you then nothing else on this site will be worth your time reading either and you can return to Netflix but if there’s just a glimmer of interest then the rest of the site will just offer different or maybe deeper perspectives of this first page in what I’m hoping will be revealing vital life changing truths in a way relevant to modern society in 2024 that you’ll hopefully discover have actually been hidden from us in plain sight all along. Personally, for me, this gave an anchor to a turbulent soul, it gave my feet solid ground rather to walk upon rather than the shifting sands, which was all I’d ever known previously.
——-
I love analogies and I like this one involving a blue and red lens (not pill)! If two people are looking at a snowman, one wearing red tinted spectacles and the other blue, when we ask them what colour snow is then each will give a different answer. Who is right though? Well they both are aren’t they because each sees ‘correctly’. Yet we know they are actually both ‘wrong’! Or do we? How do I know if my lenses are the right ones? Indeed, many times I’ve corrected my ‘lenses’ over the years, and I still do when I discover a new lens that brings things into better focus. The point hopefully made is, to never to assume we are correct.
Introducing New Viewing Lenses.
This Finding the Way section on the site will be my attempt at introducing a new lens of interpretation for you to view life so you too can hopefully discover more truth and experience that awesome feeling when so many lifelong questions suddenly get answered as they come to mind the moment we find and apply this new corrective lens of interpretation. Each sub page in this section ultimately carries the same basic message but each coming from a different life perspective to the others, in the hope of finding one that may appeal to you and your background so please don’t click out prematurely. First though let’s carry on with the intro and the next analogy…..
The Sports Car Analogy.
Since on the homepage I referred to life being like a journey, I’m going to introduce this new lens of interpretation here, this different way of thinking, by using another analogy, this time about a car. As I write this page I’m currently looking at my landlady’s nice shiny black Mercedes sports car, it’s a wonderful car, so she tells me, and I don’t doubt that!
But, what would it be like if she lived on a remote Scottish farm, or tucked away deep in a forest somewhere? You see, it’s a wonderful car when it’s doing what it was designed to do isn’t it, but if it starts doing something that it’s not designed to do, like moving a bale of straw up a muddy hillside farm track, it’s not going to be too long before trouble comes along is it.
Taking nothing away from Mercedes, I think few would argue that we as human beings are designed to live, work and function immeasurably more wonderfully than any sports car ever made yet, if we’re really truthful, how many of us can say that we actually feel that we function that way? Well, I want you to ask yourself, could the poor way we often function be similar to the way that the car performs poorly in certain situations ie could we be living our lives differently to that which we are designed to function for? If you go shopping on a Saturday afternoon you must, like I have, been pestered at a marketplace somewhere by a preacher telling you how we are all living wrongly, usually at 150 decibels too to make sure we all hear, and as much as I detest all that, to be fair, it’s just a different way of saying what I’ve just written isn’t it so let’s think about that a bit more.
Before we go any further though, I don’t want to scare you off, I want to let you know I am not a ‘preacher’ nor do I go to church, although there’s more on that at the bottom in note*. But I won’t hide that I do now, after thinking for myself about life for so long, realise that there simply must be a higher being of some sort, dumbo me here can’t even control my next heartbeat yet I still exist so how can there be nothing above me? I talk to people, I ask people questions, all sorts of questions. And it’s peoples new perspectives that help us all challenge our preconceived or indoctrinated ideas isn’t it. I mean, I’m almost embarrassed to admit but I was so wrapped up in ‘self’ for so long it took me decades before I realised something so simple, that example of the blue or red lens analogy, that we all actually only ever see our own individual coloured vision of reality. Why should my view be right? Are you sure yours is?
During our considerations, we’ve probably all asked ‘how could a loving god allow or even cause all the pain and suffering we see’? Many of us go one further than questioning or hating this god figure and from our own negative experiences conclude that there is no god or higher being.
But let’s think back to the Mercedes analogy again and remind ourselves of this very valid question – is it reasonable to consider whether our troubles and tragedies really are this supposedly loving god’s fault any more than it is Mercedes’ fault that the engine sump is ripped out and the fuel tank destroyed the first time it goes off road with that bale of straw? Could these be two similar examples of things going about doing things differently to what they are designed for, either by choice or, sadly, perhaps just circumstance?
Many may have their own personal objections to that statement but I hope you read on and after this next analogy, ask yourself if that objection is reasonable.
The Analogy of me Meeting my Wife!!
When I first properly met my now wife, we’d already chatted a little but I very nearly didn’t turn up for our first proper date. And even halfway through that first date I thought ‘I really shouldn’t be wasting this ladies time’!!
So, how come we are now husband and wife? Was it just because I saw just a tiny percentage of something lovely that day and I was so desperate for a wife? No, no, not at all, in fact quite the opposite, I would settle for nothing but the right lady! The thing is, I had bought so much baggage and preconceived ideas to our meeting that I couldn’t see beyond that and my general interpretation of her was so very coloured. And my next proposition is this, could this be how nearly all of us perceive this god character when he is introduced to us for the first time?
You see, that tiniest attractive quality I did notice in my date deserved looking into further and as we spent more time together I gradually discovered more and more of her true character that I was totally blinded to at first. And that is how it was with this ‘god’ figure I was introduced to as a young infant. No one knows or sees anything but the faintest glimmer of the true nature of God at first. And just as I had to make a decision with my date to ‘check her out a little more’ so it was in my personal discovery with God too much later in life because if we don’t make that choice, we will never ever get to know just what He is really like, all we will ever have is our own individual preconceived ideas, and I had plenty of them as a young adult! What are yours? Maybe you too think God is a killjoy? Or maybe you think heaven is that place that our departed loved ones have gone and we will all meet again there one sunny day? Maybe you only think of God when there’s been a dreadful murder or something and you think one day God will dish out justice? Maybe you’ve thought God gave you a guardian angel but then when something goes badly wrong in our lives then this ‘God’ was obviously just a figment of our imagination. I don’t know what you think, but I do know this, that yours, as well as my own perception of God is not accurate. In fact I can show you how we don’t really even know ourselves. Have you heard of or were you brainwashed with those Ten Commandments like I was as a child? Well, have you ever looked at them through this lens – that they are NOT THERE TO OBEY but simply to get us to look at ourselves? Their purpose is not to condemn us when we fail as we are taught, but, to act as a reflecting lens, a mirror, to help us see ourselves a little better and maybe realise that we’re probably not quite so cool after all and may be in need of just a little assistance from the loving God that the preacher told us about ie those commandments are similar to the Mercedes instruction manual analogy, they are there to guide us on how to get the best out of our lives and cars! More on that elsewhere on this site but here, the point being made here is that the closer we get to someone, and the more time we spend with them the more we get to know what they are really like, including our own selves, as we’ve just seen from the correct application of those 10 commandments which I once hated so much, along with the people who kept reminding me of them!!
So how do we get to find this ‘God’ or get to find this help we need to improve our state of existence? Well that’s a very good question! Christian preachers would tell us to ‘read your Bible’, but I’d say not to. I want to use another analogy now because I’ve seen so many people who have picked up a Bible then discarded it because it just doesn’t make any sense, as many eloquent men from other religions are quick to point out. And to be truthful, that’s quite understandable, it’s all just boring and often contradictory nonsense or fairy tale stories really isn’t it when we first open that big black cover and it was to me too – hence the writing of all those sub pages in this first section, which will hopefully be more relevant in 2024 than an archaic book written to guys millennia back, but there’s another analogy first, that of…
Emigrating to Germany.
Suppose I move to Germany, and soon after that my car breaks down. Another Englishman tells me there’s a great book in a bookshop in town that will show me how to fix my car. I only know the most basic bits of German though so the book is not much use, it could even be harmful if I mistranslate something, and my car remains broken and I buy another. However, five years later I find this book again and it makes much more sense, I go back to my old car, parked up and rusting away, and it’s not long now before it’s fixed and working perfectly – why, because I have spent time learning the language and can now understand the book a little better!
That’s probably not the best analogy in the world, but hopefully you’ll see what I mean and I can absolutely tell you 100% that a Bible will make virtually no sense to you at all when you first start to read it. But spend time with a good teacher (see note **) to teach it’s ‘language’ and it will progressively become alive, as will we too!
My own personal story is that it took me 30 years to get past my preconceived perception of the Bible being a Stone Age rulebook and to finally start seeing it like a Mercedes instruction manual that shows its owner just how to get the very best out of it.
And then, bingo, the jigsaw pieces in my life gradually started to fit together nicely. What used to be such perplexing questions, anything ranging from crazy news headlines to philosophical life issues, all suddenly began to fit into place, as did the everyday drudgery of life which gradually became satisfying and rewarding for the first time ever as I began to live more like how I was designed to live.
Nowadays, after a 30 year relationship, I see, hear and perceive my God communicating with me in ways which if I shared them here most people would think I’m crazy! But it’s true. And I hope those two little analogies encourage you to make that choice. And I can tell you, God never ever rejects anyone, never, no matter who it is or what they have or haven’t done. If you want to start to use your life how it was designed to function best, He will never turn anyone away, not even the most sadistic murderer. That once sadistic murderer may have to live out his beautifully reformed days on Earth with the consequences of his previous actions, but he will now be in right standing and have a wonderful new relationship with God, he will be a beacon of light to other inmates in his jail, will look forward to waking up every morning and will have all eternity to look forward to because not only is he is happy in the present but his future becomes known and certain too.
The Hardest Decision yet the Easiest Thing to Do.
If all that seems reasonable to you, don’t worry about the many hundreds of questions because the journey has only just begun, the answers arrive bang on time in due course, and that’s my own experience.
You’ve probably heard it said before about a journey, that it’s not only about reaching the destination, from the very moment our journey begins we can, and in this case most certainly do, enjoy every moment along that lifetimes journey. But, to quote an old saying that my father used to encourage me with “the longest journey begins with a single step”. How often though do we see, in all walks of life, multitudes of people who never actually make that first step towards their goal? So many young lads want to be famous footballers but they never get out their bedrooms on those cold Saturday mornings, others like me wanted to be rock stars but never got to learning to shred a guitar until it was way too late in life!
We must choose to make that first step and so it is with this message, and going back now to the me meeting my wife example, if there is just the tiniest glimmer of interest here, please take that next step forward and carry on reading.
So there is the new lens with which I would encourage you to allow everything to pass through now when evaluating life and see if anything starts to become any clearer. For me, it’s not only the once crazy news headlines but so many other things make sense now, from realising both why and how virtually the whole world is crippled by the economic slavery of interest payments to knowing why eating junk food that kills us is so encouraged. However, I’m not getting into any of that on this site. Once we see through the correct lens these things become obvious to us all and the next few pages on this first section are simply expanding on that message of ‘finding the new lens’ for you. There is some overlap though and each subpage is just looking at the same thing but from a different angle, and I’ve deliberately done that to try to appeal to as many folk as possible because I know we all come from very different backgrounds. The destination is the same but we all travel and arrive from very different directions yet the message is exactly the same to all of us. No one is more important or less important than anyone else, we go on to discover that it’s only man that makes those distinctions, God doesn’t, and once I discovered that, over 20 years ago now, that changed me forever. No longer was I the shy timid bloke with the ‘fear of man’, no longer was I looking for approval as to what I look like, what I spoke like, what qualifications I’d got, what car I drive, and no longer did I feel belittled by others – I’m accepted by the God of the universe, and that changes everything! The past no longer matters when we come to God, it’s the future what counts. I hope you read on because we can all experience that peace and that total freedom.
—————
Note * I was taken to church every week as a child, stopped as soon as I was allowed to aged 16 because it was boring and irrelevant. However, all the while I knew there was something operating well above my pea brain level and two pivotal points in my life eventually led me back, to a modern church this time, aged 30. However, around ten years ago, aged 45 ish I left church again, this time for good. I want to stress though, I’d left church, not left God. Far from it! It’s sad to say but in England in 2024 I really do believe that church is invariably the last place we’d find the God of the Bible. Please understand though, I’m generally talking of the structure and the hierarchy, not the many lovely ordinary people who I know still submit to this modern day imposter with it’s corrupt and compromised hierarchy, oblivious to the darker affairs of the compromised church system that sadly some of us know about all too well. True ‘Church’ is not about a building or an organisation or a set of rules, it’s not a social club either, but its a collection of like minded people from princes to paupers who’ve made that initial decision to simply allow this ‘God’ into their lives.
Note ** The second main section on this site was written with those in mind who’ve been unfortunate enough not to have had such good teachers. Immeasurable damage is done to us by poor teaching when we are young, both in church and in schools.
One last analogy now which I hope you consider. If for some strange reason I’d never heard music before, I asked someone to introduce me to it, and they took me to an Ed Sheeran concert then I’m sorry to all the young uns now but I would feel at best bored stiff, and probably, in the musical sense, aurally abused too!! It would be a bit short sighted of me though to write off music from that one experience wouldn’t it yet similarly that is typical of what so many vast multitudes of people have done with God. And just as I used to stumble across some of the most talented yet unheard of musicians in some of the most dingiest pubs in the country it is just the same with finding real men of God in places you wouldn’t expect to, man looks on the outside but God sees beyond the pomp of all those gowns, titles and majestic buildings where most go to find a good preacher, although, one or two of my favourite and very gifted musicians have played stadiums and we must not blanket judge those who may be more prominent and under the spotlight. I truly hope that means something to you as I know there are many many people who have had the most awful experiences that have happened under the banner of Christianity. We must never throw the baby out with the bathwater though, and if any of that does resonate with you, please know this for sure, that along this new journey you will find a place where we can all find true inner healing, whatever that pain or hurt is. Please do feel free to get in touch if you feel you’ve suffered too long with these things and wish to be restored. There is nothing that cannot be healed – if we can just find that safe place and allow that to happen.
